March: Logan completed his first year of hockey. We are so amazed by how much his skills developed from the first time he stepped on the ice to his last scrimmage of the season. The first time he stepped on the ice, he spent more time on his knees than he did his blades...and at the last scrimmage of the season (Jubilee), he brought tears to my eyes and lots of cheers when he scored a goal! Logan is such a great kid! He's a talker and full of energy, but he's also my lover and cuddler. He would do almost anything to impress his mom, including shoveling, mowing, taking out the garbage, and lecturing his mom about driving safely.
April: The month of April was BUSY!!! It was full of dance competitions in the cities for Alexis. Her Expressions Team performed the number, Grease Lightening from Grease. It is such a big team and all the girls (and the one boy) did a fantastic job! Unfortunately, we were not allowed to video-tape or do any flash photography during the performances, so I wasn't able to get any footage. I fully intend to tape her performances later this month at the recital and will post them for all to watch this year. Well, at least the Grease Lightening number because it is just so neat!
After school conferences, for me, and prior to the Easter weekend, Jadee and I took the kids to the cities for a fun-filled "stay-cation." We enjoyed exploring at the Minneapolis Science Museum, staying and swimming at the Grand Rios Water Park Hotel in Brooklyn Center (awesome and much cheaper than the Waterpark Hotel of America), and shopping at the Mall of America the following day. Jadee's parents also met us for supper and we were able to eat at one of my favorite places, Bucca's Italian Bistro. Yum!!! The kids had a BLAST the entire time and overall they did really, really well with the constant chaos.
We (or I should say "I") had one scare at the water park, however. Don't ever, ever take 3 kids to a water park by yourself! Jadee forgot a suit so he left to go buy one. The kids were getting very anxious, so I decided we would head to the park to claim our chairs. Well, as soon as Logan saw the "lazy" river (which should really be called the river of "fury"), he jumped right in and was swept away with the mass chaos of screaming people and swimming tubes. Here I sat with my nine-year-old, a baby, no husband, and a five-year-old in a river of water going over his head...umm, PANIC!!!!! Take note as well that trying to get from one side of the park to the other is like a freakin' maze (and life guards are far and few between)! Let's just say that my courages daughter found him and hung on for dear life until I (with baby in tow) found them on the other side of the river clinging to a railing. Oh, and "THANK YOU" to the zillion bystanders who did NOTHING!!! Please, if you ever see a kid or kids that look like they are drowning, please help! Don't be an idiot and stare...duh!
The rest of our time at the water park was great. Logan and Alexis are good swimmers (when they aren't pulled into rushing water, that is) and had so much fun going down water slides. Jadee spent much time riding the slides with them, while Jace and I played in the zero-depth-entry kiddie area. This was Jace's first time in a pool and he hadn't napped all day, so I was a little worried about his reaction. Like the rest of the Kubesh clan, he loves the water!!! Without fear, he crawled all over the place and spent much time exploring areas of dripping water from above. He swam for hours before crashing in my arms. I did manage to get a couple of water slide rides in myself before heading back to our room (wow, did I feel old the next morning). The kids were pretty wiped, so we ended the night with pizza and a movie. By the way, The Blind Side is a fabulous family movie.
A couple of weekends ago, I attended my first photography workshop in the cities. It was so inspiring, fun, and educational. I am really finding my style and plan to make many changes in the months to come, as I am ready to take my business to another level. The studio in our basement is working well and now that the weather is warming up, I am looking forward to getting outside for sessions. Someday, I hope to have an "official" studio...I can always dream, right? For now, I continue to expand my portfolio.
Well, thank you for reading until the end of this post. I'll try to do better with updates this next month. It's another busy one, so we'll see! I already feel behind!!!
